Detail from the cover of Gallus. A painted book cover with the main image being a person with long blond hair. They have large bell shaped earrings and one hand up which is tickling the chin of a golden fish. Above the fish is a seagull in flight. A second golden fish is swimming over their left shoulder. They are surrounded in what look to be drapes of cloth in green, scaled red and black night with stars. Bubbles dance around their head. In the top left in a drawn font is the title "Gallus" with a sub-heading of "A Glasgow SF Writers' Circle Anthology" In the top right are two quoted comments. The first by Ken MacLeod reads "... Lives up to its name with swagger and style!" The second by Eliza Chan reads "A joy to read!" Over the person's chest is the text in white "Hal Duncan, Cameron Jonston, Ruth EJ Booth And Many More..." and "Edited by E. M. Faulds, Brian M. Milton & Neil Williamson"

Glasgow Worldcon – and ‘The Badger’

The programme for Worldcon is out! Glasgow 2024 takes place across 8th – 12th August at the SEC. My first in-person con since COVID, I’ll also be helping to launch Gallus, the new anthology from the Glasgow SF Writers Circle, which features my tale ‘The Badger’ (scroll down for the cover art by Jenni Coutts).

Did I also mention I have a novelette called ‘Invitation’ in issue #11 of ParSec Magazine, out this Friday 2nd August? UPDATE: And a new column in Shoreline of Infinity issue #38, available both at the convention table and for pre-order?

Here’s where you can find me at Glasgow Worldcon:

Friday:

***New Fiction***
16:00 – Gallus Launch (Crowne Plaza, Argyll 3)
The Glasgow SF Writers’ Circle
Join the Glasgow SF Writers’ Circle for the launch of their new anthology Gallus.

17:30 – Games As Inspiration (Academy, M4)
Allen Stroud (m), Ruth EJ Booth, Soph Williams, Tristan Gray, Trudie Skies
“Playing in fantastical game worlds often sparks our imagination. Learn more about how game systems like Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons and more can generate ideas for fantasy writers.”

Saturday:

10:00 – Is the Multiverse the New Time Travel? (Armadillo, Forth)
Paul “Princejvstin” Weimer, Edgar Governo, M. Darusha Wehm, Ruth EJ Booth, S.B. Divya
“It used to be that if you wanted to resurrect a character, you had to turn back time. Now, you just bring over a doppelganger from the nearest parallel universe. Is this innovative or lazy? Why is this happening all of a sudden? What does it mean for narrative conventions when all bets are off?”

Here’s my schedule on the official Glasgow 2024 Programme Guide.

Outwith programming, I should be at the event all weekend and happy to chat.

For all the latest updates on Gallus, head to the Glasgow SF Writers’ Circle website.
