Well, this was a pleasant surprise. The British Science Fiction Association has announced the longlist for this year’s awards, and my works as an author, columnist and editor have been listed four times — specifically for ‘Invitation’, ‘The Badger’, ‘Noise & Sparks: Goodbye to All That’ and the ‘BFS Journal #24: Fantasy and Gaming’.
Here’s the breakdown:
Best Short Fiction
‘Invitation’ in ParSec #11 – [Link][Blog]
‘The Badger’ in Gallus – [Link][Blog]
Best Non-fiction (Short)
‘Goodbye to All That’ in Shoreline of Infinity [Link][Blog]
Best Non-fiction (Long)
BFS Journal #24: Fantasy and Gaming (co-edited with Charly Harbord) [Blog]
Alongside this, the anthology that contains ‘The Badger’, Gallus, has also been longlisted under the Best Collection category, with Jenni Coutts’ cover art under Best Artwork. I’m made up for my buddies from the GSFWC, whose hard work made this anthology so fabby. I’m also delighted to see Siobhan McDonald’s cover and my friend SJ Groenewegen’s article ‘Science Fiction and Abolishing the Police’ from the same issue #38 of Shoreline of Infinity on the list. And naturally, our amazing contributors deserve all the plaudits for their hard work on BFS Journal #24: Fantasy and Gaming.
There are two more stages left in the voting, with the final winners to be announced at this year’s Eastercon (Reconnect) in Belfast. In the meantime, thank you to all the members of the BSFA who decided to recognize our work in this way, and congratulations to all our fellow longlistees!
