Shoreline of Infinity #38

by

In the second blog of my non-fiction catch-up, let’s take a closer look at issue #38 of Shoreline of Infinity and my new Noise & Sparks column, ‘Goodbye to All That’, which came out in August.

Isn’t that a splendid cover? It’s Siobhan McDonald’s work.

Fans of Joan Didion and Robert Graves might recognize the title of this one, though it’s Joan’s essay about leaving New York City that particularly inspired me here. As part of Issue #38, the Worldcon special, ‘Goodbye to All That’ is about a particular form of jealousy and self-loathing that often strikes writers when bigger publishing events come to town — and leave them with their wildest dreams unfulfilled. As a chronic illness sufferer, I’ve spent much of the past few years trying to make my working practise sustainable for me, and I hope these thoughts help you to find or frame your own writing goals.

‘Goodbye to All That’ is available in issue #38 of Shoreline of Infinity, which is available in digital and paperback from www.shorelineofinfinity.com.
